Magazine Advert- Evaluation

Overall I think our magazine advert worked well. We decided to carry out the theme of black and white throughout both our digipak and our magazine advert. From our research we came to the conclusion that most indie bands very rarely use bright colours or have the band members visible.

On our magazine advert we decided to have the image of  footsteps, these are the same ones which we used on our digipak. We decided to use this image on both the digipak and the magazine advert because the image of footsteps relates back to the album name 'Footsteps' and therefore when this image is seen by the public they will automatically link this image of footsteps with the band The Jefferson Brick. By using the same image it is giving the band 'brand awareness' amongst the market of our target audience (teenagers).

We have also used the same font for the band name 'The Jefferson Brick' and the album name 'Footsteps' The font can also be recognised as a good way of advertising the band, therefore if fans see the font used on both the digipak and then magazine advert, the font will then be associated with the band. We added a band image on the bottom of the advert, however similar to what we did in our digipak we had the band facing the back in order for their faces to not be visible to their audience. By having the band members facing the back I think this is suggesting to the audience that they want people to listen to their music and to watch them perform, rather than their faces be thrown all over all their merchandise and adverts. I think this image of the band works well and I like how the image is black and white giving the magazine advert an 'indie' feel it it. By having the image in black and white it  is suggesting that the band image is not important and all that is important is the music they are producing. I like the composition of this image and I think the lighting works particularly well, especially with the shadows of the band members in the background which give the band more of a mysterious and eerie edge, which most indie bands seem to have.

When looking at existing indie magazine adverts such as Noah and the Whale and Kasabian, they have little if any information about the background of the band. They only have the bare minimum information about the band such as the band name, the album name, when their album is released, when they are touring and where, their website and feedback and ratings from local businesses. We chose to have feed back and ratings from NME due to the fact that they publicise and give opinions on the top indie bands, therefore they would be perfect for our genre of music. We also chose Q magazine purely because they are one of the UK's top music magazines giving news about new and up and coming bands and also giving their opinions. Finally we chose to get feedback from The Daily Mail, to get a different opinion from a local newspaper, to get an opinion from elsewhere outside of the music business.

I think out magazine advert has worked well, linking well with out digipak. I am pleased that both the digipak and the magazine advert are similar in the colours, fonts and images that we have used. This will make the band easily recognised through advertisements and merchandise giving the band 'brand awareness'.
