Artists and Role Models

For our music genre choice, we have chosen 'indie music' who purposely have no forced 'star image' due to the lack of producers involved. The attitude of a band doing what they wish could allow them to be a role model as they appeal to those who want to be individual and not follow a brand provided - however, indie music puts a huge emphasis on the music over how they are portrayed which could mean that they may not appeal to a mass audience. They may appeal to a younger audience, due to the strong connection to new-technology (eg. Youtube, Twitter, MySpace) which allows themselves to be noticed - many of which could chose to make them a role-model. Those who could use an indie artist as a role model may not follow them quite so religiously as many pop artists are, for example mimicking clothing, but may follow the same 'do-it-yourself' attitude.
